The ridge runs along the very top of your roof, and the tiles there are among the most exposed and most likely to work loose in high winds. Once the mortar bedding cracks and crumbles, ridge tiles can slip or blow off completely, leaving the roof open to the weather. We re-bed and re-point ridge tiles across Angus, Aberdeenshire and Tayside, and we fit modern dry-ridge systems that mechanically fix each tile - no mortar to crack, far more secure in Scottish winds, and maintenance-free for decades. Common Questions
What's a dry-ridge system?
A dry-ridge system mechanically fixes each ridge tile with screws and clamps rather than bedding them in mortar. It stays secure in high winds, allows the roof to ventilate, and needs no maintenance - which is why it is now the preferred method.
Why do my ridge tiles keep coming loose?
Traditional mortar bedding cracks and crumbles over the years, especially on exposed roofs, which lets the ridge tiles work loose. Re-bedding or switching to a dry-ridge system solves it properly.
Can you just repair a few ridge tiles?
Yes - if only a few are loose we can re-bed or refix those. If the mortar along the whole ridge has failed, re-ridging the full run (ideally with a dry system) is usually the better long-term option, and we'll advise which suits.
