Lead Flashing

Lead flashing supplied and fitted - sealing the vulnerable joints around chimneys, valleys, abutments and dormers where leaks start.

About This Service

Lead flashing seals the junctions where a roof meets something else - a chimney, a wall, a valley, a dormer or a roof window - and these joints are where the majority of roof leaks begin. When old lead cracks, lifts or was poorly fitted in the first place, water finds its way straight in. We supply and fit new lead flashing across Angus, Aberdeenshire and Tayside, using the correct code of lead, properly dressed and chased into the masonry so the joint is watertight for decades. Whether it's a failed chimney flashing, a leaking valley or a new abutment, we make the vulnerable parts of your roof watertight again.

Common Questions

Why does flashing cause so many leaks?

Flashings seal the joints between the roof and chimneys, walls and valleys - the trickiest parts of any roof. When the lead cracks, lifts or was fitted badly, water gets straight into the junction. Renewing the flashing properly is often all it takes to stop a persistent leak.

Can you replace just the flashing without redoing the roof?

Yes - in many cases the roof covering is sound and only the flashing has failed. We can renew the lead around the chimney, valley or abutment on its own and make it watertight.

How long does lead flashing last?

Properly fitted lead flashing can last 50 years or more. The key is the right code of lead, dressed and fixed correctly and chased into the masonry - which is exactly how we fit it.
