Chimney Repairs & Repointing

Chimney repairs and repointing - re-pointing brickwork, re-bedding pots, renewing flashings and making chimney stacks watertight.

About This Service

A chimney stack is the most exposed part of your roof, taking the full force of the weather, so it's often where problems start. Crumbling mortar, loose pots, cracked flaunching and failed flashings all let water in, leading to damp chimney breasts and stained ceilings. We carry out all chimney work across Angus, Aberdeenshire and Tayside - repointing weathered brickwork, re-bedding and renewing pots, re-casting the flaunching around the pots and renewing the lead flashings where the stack meets the roof. Where a chimney is no longer used, we can also take it down and make the roof good. Everything is done from proper access and left watertight.

Common Questions

How do I know if my chimney needs repointing?

Look for gaps and crumbling mortar between the bricks, loose or leaning pots, and damp patches on the chimney breast inside. If you can see daylight or missing mortar, or there is staining indoors, it is worth getting the stack checked.

Can you remove a chimney I no longer use?

Yes - we can take a redundant chimney down to roof level (or lower) and make the roof good with matching slates or tiles so it looks like it was never there, which also removes a future maintenance headache.

Is the leak coming from my chimney?

Chimneys are one of the most common sources of roof leaks - usually failed flashing, cracked flaunching or porous brickwork. We'll trace the exact cause and put it right rather than just sealing over it.
